OBITUARYMRS. DOVIE H. MARTINDecember 28, 1909 - October 29, 2006ANDERSON, SCFollowing a life marked by love of family and faith in God, Dovie Uzila Holmes Martin, 96, died Sunday, October 29, 2006. Services will be held at Boulevard Baptist Church, 700 Boulevard in Anderson, SC on Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the New Silverbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 1, 2006 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home, 2211 North Main Street, Anderson. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in her memory be made to Boulevard Baptitst Church, We Care Fund, 700 Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd, Anderson, SC 29621.Born December 28, 1909 in Tylertown MS, Dovie was one of eight children of Enos Eugene and Delia Stogner Holmes. She was married for 53 years to Charles Henry Martin, until his death in December 1984. Charlie's career with Bechtel Corp. caused them to live in many locations all over North America and Puerto Rico; they moved to Anderson at his retirement in 1971.As they had done with all of their previous moves, they immediately looked for a new church home, and joined Boulevard Baptist Church. Dovie loved children very much and served joyfully in the Sunday morning nursery for 23 years. She also loved music, and shared that love with many by teaching and playing her organ.Charlie and Dovie were known for their bounteous vegetable and flower gardens and the generosity with which they shared them. An avid bridge player, Dovie was a part of many regular bridge groups including playing with the 'Newcomers' for over 25 years.She is survived by a sister Emmer Gene Fortenberry and husband Noel of Tylertown, MS; her daughter Charlotte Martin Holmes and her husband Paul, of Seneca, SC; grandchildren Ann Gressette and husband Bam, of Columbia, SC and Kenneth Holmes and wife Gina of Chapin, SC; great-grandsons Lawrence, Paul and John Gressette and Jackson and Connor Holmes.A message of condolence may be sent to the family by visitingwww.mcdougaldfuneralhome.comTHE MCDOUGALD FUNERAL HOME is in charge of the arrangements.
