Mary Downie McDaniel Camak, age 93, passed away on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Marchbanks Assisted Living. Born in Laurens County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Matthew Evans McDaniel and the late Myrtle Dunwoody McDaniel. She graduated from Lander College. Downie taught elementary school in Central, Clemson, and Anderson for over 30 years. She was a life-long Methodist and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was a devoted daughter, loving wife, wonderful mother and friend to all who knew her. Her gentle influence touched many and she is sweetly remembered. Downie is survived by her children, Joyce Anne Camak Fischetti, of Cary, NC, James McDaniel Camak, of Central, SC, and daughter-in-law, Dorothy Dean Fant Camak; her grandchildren, John Constantine Fischetti, of Raleigh, NC, Joseph Matthew Fischetti, and his wife Patricia Koch Fischetti, of Alpharetta, GA, and Joseph Boyd Camak, III, and his wife, Sara Nicolette Camak, of Falls Church, VA, Marshall Fant Camak and his wife Sarah LaRue Camak, of Greenville, SC and Dorothy Dean Camak, of Greenville, SC; great grandchildren, Christopher Constantine Fischetti and Jacqueline Nicole Fischetti, of Raleigh, NC; her sister-in-law, Frances McNeely McDaniel; and thirteen nieces and nephews and her special friend, Sylvia Garrett, of Anderson, SC In addition to her parents, Downie was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Evans McDaniel, her husband, Joseph Boyd Camak; sons, infant, John Banks Camak, and Dr. Joseph Boyd Camak, Jr.; a granddaughter, Stephanie Anne Fischetti; and her son-in-law, David Carmichael Fischetti. The Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 12:00 noon with Reverend Bob Norris officiating. Interment will be held at Greenwood Memorial Gardens following the service.
