Dr. Steven L. Cox, 61, of Anderson, SC went home to Heaven to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, November 20, 2017 and is now resting in the glory of His presence. Steve was born and raised in Anderson, SC. He was a graduate of Westside High School class of 1975, Anderson College, Central Wesleyan College, Erskine Theological Seminary and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, where he received his PhD in New Testament and Greek. He was a professor of New Testament and Greek at Luther Rice Seminary in Lithonia, GA and retired from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Cordova, TN. Steve is survived by Vivian Tollison Cox, his loving wife of almost 42 years; daughter, Dana Lynn Cox Warwick (James) of Bartlett, TN; son, Bryan Steven Cox (Katie) of Anderson, SC. He was the proud grandfather of Reagan, Michael, Riley, Daniel, Reese and Samuel Warwick and David and Johnathan Cox. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Evangeline (Bill) Harris of Kenna, WV; brother-in-law, Oral (Renee) Tollison of Anderson, SC; his two close friends, Stephen Cater and Joe Allen, and four special friends. He was preceded in death by his best friend, his father-in-law, Eugene Tollison of Anderson, SC. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 am Friday, November 24, 2017 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 11:00 am with Rev. Dr. Tony Smith officiating. A graveside prayer will follow in Andersonville Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
