Dr. Kenneth Eugene Hanna, age 83, of Durham, NC, formerly of Anderson, SC, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Duke University Medical Center. Born October 13, 1939 in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Wilton Hanna and Elizabeth Holtzclaw Hanna. Dr. Hanna was a graduate of Boys High Class of 1957 and received his PhD from East Florida State College. He was retired from University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Duke University where he taught Greek and Bible-Old Testament Studies. He was a former member of Southside Baptist Church in Anderson but was a current member of First Baptist Church in Durham. Each day he enjoyed his morning coffee and reading the newspaper. His hobbies included visiting historical cemeteries. He is survived by Diane Ellison and her husband Richard and their children, Kayla Ellison, Karly Ellison, Nicole Sanders, and Cameron Hurley; and a number of other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and other extended family. He is also survived by his Chihuahua, Max. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Ray Hanna, Sr.; and great nephew, Parker Tate Ellison. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 12:00-1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Philip McAlister officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
