RICEAUGUST 24, 1936 - AuguST 3, 2008GREER, SCDr. Russell William Rice, age 71, husband of Beverly C. Rice of 343 Nature Trail Drive, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at his home.Born in Clawson, Michigan on August 24, 1936, he was the son of the late Russell William Rice, Sr. and Sarah Markwick Rice. Dr. Rice received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bob Jones University and an Honorary Doctorate degree from Tabernacle Bible College. During his fifty years of being a Pastor and Evangelist, he served the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church in Kenton, OH; Pleasant View Welcome Baptist Church in Travelers Rest, SC; Immanuel Baptist Church in Edenton, NC; Cedar Forest Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC;Good News Baptist Church in Candler, NC and Oakwood Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. He was a member of Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens, WV, where his son is the Pastor.Dr. Rice also assisted in the founding of Tabernacle Bible College where he taught for thirty-five years. He served in numerous capacities and on numerous boards for various Baptist organizations and missions.Survivors include his wife, Beverly Clingerman Rice; son, Russell William Rice, Jr.; son, Randy Charles Rice (Phyllis); daughter, Sara Rice Patterson (Rick); daughter, Charity Rice Hall (Don); sister, Joy Rice Dibler (Al); sister, Beth Rice Taylor (Billy). Also surviving are ten grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Dr. Rice was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Rice Carlson.The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 8th at Tabernacle Baptist Church, located on White Horse Road in Greenville, conducted by Dr. Melvin Aiken, Dr. John T. Byerly, and Dr. Guy Roberts. A Family Committal Service will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel, located on Highway 81 North in Anderson.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 7th.CONT' D PAGE TWO OF OBITUARY FOR DR.
