Dr. Robert Glenn Austin, DMD, age 69, of Anderson, SC, passed away after a hard-fought battle against cancer on Monday, July 15, 2024, at MUSC Charleston. Bob was a dedicated husband, father, Papa to his grandchildren and a true friend to many.

Born September 29, 1954, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Robert Joseph Austin and Patricia Joan Lowe Austin. He was also preceded in death by sister Laura Austin Rivera.

He graduated from Lindenhurst High School, was a United States Airforce Veteran, a graduate from The University of South Carolina and The Medical University of South Carolina School of Dentistry. Bob was a well-loved dentist in Anderson for 37 years. Bob was the founder of the Anderson Free Dental Clinic and involved in many organizations, including, Keep America Beautiful (Chairman), Anderson Arts Center Board (Past President), Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, Big Smiles for Little Scholars (co-founder), Foothills Sertoma (co-founder), Anderson University Board of Visitors, An-Med foundation board, Anderson Rotary Club (Past President). He was a graduate of both Leadership Anderson and Leadership South Carolina. He was the recipient of the Independent Mail "Pointing the way Award", the "Service award for professional excellence", the Anderson Independent "15 over 50", Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the year award, SC Dental Association "Young Professional of the year award", and most recently the recipient of the Foothill's Community Foundation's Robert M. Rainey Philanthropy award.

He is survived by his wife Kristina Jacks Austin of 40 years, sons Christopher (Angela), Andrew (Caitlin), daughter Jennifer (Thomas), and sisters Patricia Austin Schmidt (Charlie) and Gale Austin. He is also survived by his grandchildren Zoe, Seth, Wyatt, Annabella, Ross, & Andrew Charles Austin Jr.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church with Rev. Howard Jones officiating. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow the service. A private family committal will be held at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Anderson Free Clinic or The Cancer Association of Anderson.
