Dr. Gregory Keith Townsend, age 55, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2017 in Clearwater, FL. Born on July 31, 1962 in Chester County, PA, he was the son of Dennis Townsend and the late Doris Hennen Townsend. He attended College Heights Baptist Church Christian Academy High School Greg later graduated from Akron University in Akron, OH. He continued his education at Northeastern Ohio Medical University where he received his MD degree. He served his residency in Anesthesiology at Geisinger Medical Center and his fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Obstetric Anesthesiology. He worked for many years as an anesthesiologist for several groups and hospitals serving the communities in which he lived. Greg proudly served his country in the National Guard as a Field Surgeon in the 80's. He was 2nd LT in the Ohio National Guard and spent several years in the Reserve Guard earning the rank of HHT 3/107 AC SQDN. Greg was a man of great faith and a continuous student of the Bible. He was saved at the Strongsville Baptist Church in 1973. He attended Liberty Baptist Church in St. Petersburg, FL. He was very proud to send his youngest daughter, Reagan to Lakeside Christian School. In addition to his father, he is survived by two daughters, Erin Townsend, of Tampa, FL and Reagan Townsend, of Monument, CO; siblings, Debbie Mentler and her husband Lou, Nancy Townsend, Holly Ouellette and her husband Mark, and John Townsend. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Nathan Deatrick and Reagan Townsend will be speakers during the service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Veteran's Cemetery. The family will be at 400 Earles Fort Road, Landrum, SC 29356.
