Eddie Charles Thompson, age 77, of Iva, SC, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at his home. Born July 7, 1946, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Paul Timothy "Curley" Thompson and Jennie "Memaw" Gaines Thompson. He was married to Ruby Christine Morrow Thompson until her death in 2012. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Andy C. Thompson and Dale T. "Skeeter" Thompson. Eddie was a proud veteran of the United States Army where he served as a paratrooper and was formerly employed with Daniel Construction. He was a member of the Iva Masonic Lodge #238 and Smyrna United Methodist Church. His hobbies included gardening and working on his tractors. Eddie enjoyed spending time with his family and loved them all dearly. He is survived by his son, Billy Lewis of Greenwood; brother, Danny A. Thompson of Iva; sisters, Delona McCarley (William) of Abbeville and Becky Thompson of Iva; and grandson McCall Morgan. The family will receive friends Monday, August 7, 2023, from 1:30-2:30 pm at Smyrna United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm with Rev. Jerry Gray officiating. The committal service with military honors performed by the Campbell Patriots and masonic rites performed by Iva Masonic Lodge #238 will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Iva Fire Department.
