Edith Louise Whitman Hopson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 23, 2021, at her home in Toccoa, GA. She was born on April 17, 1935 in LaFrance, SC, to the late Lois Guy and Mamie Smith Whitman. Edith was well known throughout her life for being a great cook and talented cake decorator. Many of her recipes were published in various newspapers over the years. Her homemade biscuits, beef stroganoff, and spaghetti and meatballs were among the favorites of family and friends. She also made and decorated elegant birthday, shower, wedding, and anniversary cakes. Her husband says that he fell very quickly for her when she made him an Out of this World cake. When not busy raising her rambunctious sons, Edith enjoyed ceramics. After their sons were grown, Edith and Lee enjoyed traveling and took many trips on his Gold Wing Honda. Edith was always active in church beginning with LaFrance Church of God as a child followed by First Baptist Church in Jonesboro, GA. When they retired, Edith and Lee became members of Toms Creek Baptist Church in Martin, GA. Edith is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Lee R. Hopson; sons, Dean Pruitt (Pat) and Scott Pruitt (Kathy) both of South Carolina; stepson, Mike Hopson (Lisa) of Tennessee; sisters-in-law, Margaret Whitman of Georgia and Wanda Toms (David) of Kentucky; 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons, Anthony Pruitt and Shaun Pruitt; granddaughter, Desiree' Pruitt; siblings, Cornelia Bowen, Grady Whitman, Janie Willis, Leonard Whitman, Clem Whitman, Lois Whitman, Ila Morgan, James Whitman, and O'dell Whitman. A graveside service will be held Friday, August 27, 2021, at 10:00 am at Memory Gardens in Clemson, SC, with Rev. Roger Allison of LaFrance Church of God officiating.
