Mrs. Edith Reeves Parker Vincent, of Anderson, South Carolina, passed on Tuesday, the 20th of March 2018, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, at 94 years of life.
She was born in Lancaster County, South Carolina on August 17, 1923 to Mr. William James Parker and Mrs. Mae Reeves Parker. As a graduate of Columbia College of Columbia, South Carolina she contributed to WWII efforts in Washington, D.C., through work as a code breaker. She was a faithful member, deacon and elder of Central Presbyterian Church actively contributing to the growth and unity of the church for 60 years. Her passion for horticulture led her to volunteer in community beautification, maintain a lifetime membership in the Garden Trail Garden Club and bring the State Garden Club Convention to Anderson.
She was involved in civic outreach as a past president and member of the Auxiliary to the Anderson County Medical Society, Co-Chair of the Anderson County Cancer Society, member of the Anderson County Woman's Club and volunteer to the Soup Kitchen and the Women's Shelter. Her love for family, cooking and gardening knew no bounds. She used her talents to give generously to others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Hugh E. Vincent Jr.
She is survived by her siblings; Mrs. Jane Raben of Ellijay, Georgia and Mr. Don Parker of Hampton, South Carolina; her three children (and their spouses); Hugh E. Vincent III (Leigh) of Iva, South Carolina, Lawton Vincent (Cheryl) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Jane Vincent Randolph (Roger) of Cookeville, Tennessee, and four grandchildren; Lauren Randolph Graves (Kyle), Brooke Randolph Mattingly (Joshua), Brian Vincent (Walker) and Lawton Vincent Jr.
The family will be at the residence and will also receive friends from 11:00 am - 12:30pm Saturday, March 24, 2018 at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dr. David J. Bailey and Rev. Noelle Read officiating. A private interment will be held at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Central Presbyterian Church Grounds Beautification Fund, 1404 North Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621, which Mrs. Vincent helped to establish for the church gardens.
