Obituary

Edward Frank Ifkovits, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born on April 8, 1931, he was the son of the late Frank I. and Johanna Bodish Ifkovits. Edward was a graduate of Northampton High School, Northampton, PA. He proudly served his country as Corporal in the United States Army, served during the Korean War, was a member of the United States Army Band, and was honorably discharged in 1955. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, 1959 and a MBA from William and Mary College, 1970 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He was the first member of his immediate family to graduate. He was a Financial Controller for BASF Corporation Fibers Division for 35 years, and retired on November 30, 1993. He enjoyed many activities and served on many committees such as: Past President of the Williamsburg Jaycees, Life Member in the Virginia Junior Chamber of Commerce, President Anderson Area Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants, and Board of Directors of the Western Foothills United Way. Also, a Loaned Executive, Treasurer, Budget Committee, Executive Committee, of Tri-County Technology College and a member of the Business Advisory Committee. He served on the Board of St. Joseph Catholic School and various other committees' in the church. He was a lector for St. Bede's Catholic Church in Williamsburg, Virginia, then for St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anderson, SC, combined for a total of over 50 years. Ed served on the parish council and was the finance chairman. He was a member from 2006 to present of the Golden "K" Kiwanis, Anderson, SC, Treasurer, Assistant treasurer and Board Member. He was an IRS tax volunteer for the American Associated of Retired Persons in Anderson. He served as Treasurer, Finance Chairman, and Finance Chairman at Senior Solutions, Board member and accountant for Habitat for Humanity, Finance Committee Chairman at Anderson College, as President and Vice President of Electric City Sertoma Club, and on the Patient Advisory Committee at Anderson Health Care. Ed was also a former member of the Anderson Country Club, and was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife Gerri Ifkovits; three children, Paul Ifkovits (Tracie), of Lexington, SC, Philip Ifkovits (April), of Dunwoody, GA, and Janine I. Sally (Steve), of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Hayden and Emiley Ifkovits, Zachary and Nicholas Ifkovits, and Brennan and Kristopher Sally; and a brother, Richard Ifkovits (Sandra), of Lake Wiley, SC. Ed loved his family and was so very proud of his grandchildren. He loved his children, his God, and his church. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by a brother, Frank Ifkovits and his wife Terry; and a sister Theresa Girardi. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. with Father Philip S. Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery with military honors. A rosary service will begin at 6:00 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, January 16, 2017, and then the family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1303 McLees Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
