William Edward Wilson, age 70, husband of the beloved late Sue Elaine Murphree Wilson of 42 years, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018. Born in Highlands, NC, on November 9, 1947, Bill was a son of the late William Sampson Wilson and Annie Belle Lamb Wilson. After graduating from Highlands High School in NC, Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart Medal. He then began a career as a machinist with Baldor Electric Corporation formally Rockwell Automation in Belton, retiring after 25 years of service. He was a musician who loved Bluegrass and Country music, was an avid outdoorsman and collector of Antique Cars. Above all, he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Bill is survived by his children, Cindy Gurley, William "Billy" Wilson, Jr., Matthew Wilson and William "Eddie" Wilson, III, all of Anderson; sisters, Willine Robinson of Sandy Springs, Wilma Fendley of Oakway, Rose Burkett of Central, Marcia Chastain and Leigh Anne Kennemore, both of Highlands, NC; brother, Gary Wilson of Highlands, NC; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Sue and his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Melissa Wilson Roberts. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. following in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Bill's nephew, Reverend Michael Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Military Honors.
