Elbert Lee Menees, Jr., age 86, of Anderson, SC, passed away Sunday, September 18, 2022 at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born December 6, 1935 in Mobile, AL, he was the eldest child of Elbert L. Menees, Sr. and Lucille McCoy Menees. He was a graduate of Boys High and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. After serving as a Line officer in the U.S. Navy, he pursued parallel careers in business and education. While working 14 years for Westinghouse and Milliken, he earned an MBA at Northeastern University and a PH.D. in Business Administration at the University of South Carolina. During his 24 years as an educator and administrator at USC-Upstate, he operated a part-time computer consulting business. He earned a post-doctoral certification in information systems from the Advanced Institute for Information Systems at the University of Indiana. He was a past-president of the Spartanburg Area Chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants and published a number of articles in accounting and information systems journals. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Anderson. During retirement, he served on the Board of Directors of the Lake Hartwell Association, was a Meals on Wheels volunteer and AARP Tax-Aide volunteer, a member and past-president of the Golden Kiwanis Club and a member of the Anderson Area Coin Club. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Libby" Dillard Menees; brothers William "Bill" Menees and Frank Menees both of Anderson; daughters Kem Van Dyken (Doug) of Anderson and Leigh Henderson (Jamie) of Inman; son, Bill Menees of Anderson; 3 grandchildren and 5 (soon to be 6) great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Menees Roof. The family will receive friends Friday, September 23, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 24, 2022 at 10:00 am at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
