Elizabeth Whaler Wessels Herron, age 84, of Starr, SC, passed away Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Hospice of the Upstate. Born November 5, 1937, in Tacoma Park, MD she was a daughter of the late Walter Kimberly Wessels and the late Annabel Whaler Wessels. She was a graduate of the University of Alabama and received her master's degree from Clemson University. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Anderson County Retired Teachers Association and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Elizabeth taught school for 24 years in Anderson County District 3. She not only taught the basics, always organized and prepared, she instilled confidence and a sense of belonging, in her students by loving and respecting each child. She never quit; she had a unique ego that helped her survive the hard days, but the humility to know it was always about the kids. She brought the same skills home to her own children. With understanding and patience, she taught her sons to never quit, respect one another, listen to others, and always love unconditionally. Traits she exemplified every day. In addition to her husband, Lt. Col. Roy Herron, she is survived by her sons, Roy H. Herron, Jr. (Linda) of Starr, Dr. Walter K. Herron (Beth) of Anderson, John W. Herron (Connie) of Antreville, and William P. Herron of Anderson; sister, Julia W. Simmons of Durham, NC; grandchildren, Jessica Herron Stowe, Zachary K. Herron, Drew M. Herron, Victoria Herron Di Benedetto, Alicia M. Herron, Olivia K. Herron, and Colton T. Herron; and great grandchildren, James Kyle Herron, Matthew Blake Herron, and Isabella Rose Herron. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by a sister, Annabel W. Reed . The family will receive friends, Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at 11 am at the chapel of the McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Fischer and Rev. Bennie Powers officiating. Burial will follow at Starr Baptist Church Cemetery.
