Elizabeth Wells Hester, age 97, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born August 26, 1927, in Townville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Carl Edward Wells and the late Hattie Feltman Wells. She was married to Alvin Edward Hester until his death in 2017. She was also preceded in death by a son, Lane Whitfield; sister, Lottie Whitfield; and foster brother, Richard Huckaby.

Known as "Lib", she was formerly the supervisor of seamstresses for Shirt Masters for 25 years. She was an active member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church where she formerly served as the superintendent of the nursery, taught Sunday School for ages 5 through adults, and was a substitute teacher for all the ladies' classes. She also served on the benevolence and building committees, was the Summer Bible School Director, and was a leader for the Brownies and Blue Bird Girl Scouts. She loved her yard and flower gardens; adored all children, especially her grands and great-grands; and was devoted to her faith and church.

She is survived by her daughter, Denise Higginbotham (Kenneth); daughter-in-law, Diane Whitfield; five grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 21, 2024, from 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Doug Ferguson will officiate the funeral service in the chapel following the receiving of friends at 1:30 pm. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate or Varennes Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.
