Elizabeth Dillard (Libby) Menees, age 84, passed away Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at her daughter Kem's house under Hospice Home Care.
Born in Anderson, SC, she was the eldest child of William Marvin Dillard, Sr. and Elizabeth Greene Dillard of Anderson.
Libby attended the local public schools and the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Later, she attended Forrest Business School in Anderson and earned certification in business administration. In 1957, she married Elbert Menees, Jr. an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and graduate of USC-Columbia, where they met. They settled in Spartanburg in 1970, where Libby was a secretary and business manager for Jesse Boyd Elementary School for 27 years. She and her husband retired there in 1998. They built a house on Lake Hartwell in Anderson County and lived there for 22 years.
Post retirement they traveled a great deal then settled in as volunteers for Meals on Wheels for 20+ years. Libby was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she also volunteered to answer calls in the office and work in the kitchen.
She is survived by her daughters, Kem Van Dyken (Doug) of Anderson and Leigh Henderson (Jamie) of Inman; son, Bill Menees of Anderson; sister, Barbara Dillard Rogers (Kenneth) of Raleigh, NC; brothers, William Marvin (Billy) Dillard Jr. (Margaret) and Roy Greene (Buddy) Dillard (Caryl Kaye) both of Anderson; 3 grandchildren and 5 (soon to be 6) great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Lee Menees, Jr.
The funeral service will be held Monday, October 24, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 302 W. Whitner St., Anderson, SC 29624 or Hospice of the Upstate Rainey House, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
