Millard Christian Monnen, U.S Army retired, went home to be with the Lord on January 14, 2011. Born in Washington, D.C. on July 10, 1918 to Elizabeth Todd Clayton Johnson and Lt. Col. John Nettleton Johnson Jr., a career Army officer, she was preceded in death by her brother Lt. Col. John N. Johnson, III, USAF, who is survived by his wife Margaret T. Johnson. Betsy is survived by her daughter Elizabeth C. Monnen of Anderson, SC, sons Millard C. Monnen, Jr. and wife Patricia R. of Anderson, and William R. Monnen and wife Grace J. Napier and granddaughter Christina N. Monnen of Natick, MA.Betsy was a loving wife and mother, always available for support and guidance to her family. She was an avid gardener, past president and charter member of the Frances Vasen Garden Club and a member of Roberts Church and the Annie Rainey Circle. A lover of history and travel, the military life afforded her the benefit and exposure to both. A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at Zion United Methodist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Zion United Methodist Church Building Fund, 5708 Hwy. 187 North, Anderson, SC 29625 or to the charity of one's choice.
