Elizabeth "Lib" Rowland, 94, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 12, 2020. Lib was born on June 5, 1925 in Richland, SC to Clarence Arthur Bruce, Sr. and Eunice Simmons Bruce Brooks. The last surviving member of her immediate family, she was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Lt. William Laurens Bruce and Clarence Arthur Bruce (Barbara); sister, Louise Bruce Stave (Don); husband, Joseph Francis Rowland; her first husband, Charles Barr Thompson; and her son, Randolph Sherwood (Woody) Carlson. Adored by all her family, Lib is survived by her daughter, Diana Carlson James (Carter Boucher); grandchildren, Mindy Carlson McCarthy (Ryan) and Jesse William David James; nephews, Tom Stave (Vicki), Art Bruce (Kathy), Jeff Stave (Yvonne); nieces, Tolly Bryan (Kent) and Becky Evans (David); daughters and sons by marriage, Luanne Rowland, Peggy Waye, Robin Rowland (Bev), and Tom Rowland (Linda); grandchildren by marriage, Justin Rowland, Megan Waye Campbell, Nicole W. Harvey, Karen Waye, and Rebecca W. Dembrowski. Her beloved husband, Joe, described his "Libby" as "kind, loving, considerate, interested in people and their lives, generous, and easy to talk to and love". She has a "million" friends who would agree with this description of her. An avid reader, Lib read two books a week for a lifetime. She also enjoyed playing bridge and golf with her husband and her friends. She had a positive impact on everyone she met, and she made the world a better place. A celebration of her life will be held at her church, Young Memorial ARP, Anderson, SC on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 am. Visitation at 12:00 noon will follow in the Rainey Room (Fellowship Hall). Interment will be at a later date at M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Calvary Children's Home in Anderson, SC or a charity of one's choice.
