ELIZABETH "BETH" ASHLEY SILL Elizabeth Ashley Sill, 94, widow of R. Hodges Sill, died February 16, 2015, at NHC of Anderson. Born in Anderson on September 12, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Sloan and Carrie Duckworth Ashley. Beth was an honor graduate of Anderson Girl's High School, Class of 1938, and attended Carolina Business School. Before her marriage she worked for Horton-Prevost Insurance Agency in Anderson. For 46 years she was a resident of Athens, GA, following her marriage. She and her husband owned a general insurance agency, R. Hodges Sill Insurance Agency until their retirement in 1984. While a resident of Athens, she was very active in her community having served as President of the Junior Woman's Club and the Georgia Federation of Women's Clubs. She was a charter member of the Altrusa Club of Athens; President of Sorosis of Athens; a member of the American Cancer Society; served on the Executive Board for Juvenile Court, Potter's House and Hope Haven School. She was an active member of Chapelwood Methodist Church, Athens, GA, as long as health permitted and until her move to Anderson in 2002. Survivors include 5 nieces, Joanne A. Phillips, Nancy A Cochran, and Laura A. Keller, all of Anderson; Jane B. Stott and Betsy B. Dunn of Greensboro, NC; 2 nephews, Jon H. Barton of Atlanta, GA and W. M. "Buck" Ashley of Anderson; and a god-child, Adlee Smith of Athens. She is also survived by two step-granddaughters, Velita P. Rudnick of Aiken, SC and Theresa P. Courtney of Columbia, SC. Beth was preceded in death by a son, Hodges Ashley Sill; six brothers, Floyd, Laurice, Kistler, Hewlette, James and Milford "Red" Ashley; two sisters, Alese A. Hayes and Myra A. Barton and a step-grandson, Charles Parkes, and a step daughter, Betty Sill Parkes. The funeral service to celebrate the life of Beth Sill will be held Thursday, February 19, 2015, at 2 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. David J. Bailey officiating. Interment will follow at Old Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Nancy Cochran, 239 Ashley Road, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Upstate and Station 6 at NHC for their care and concern for Mrs. Sill.
