Obituary

ELIZABETH FINGER SUTTONAPRIL 22, 1921 - OctoBER 10, 2010ANDERSON, SC ' Elizabeth (Betty) Finger Sutton, age 89, wife of the late Cole Benjamin Sutton, Jr., passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson. Born in East Orange, NJ, as a child she lived in Short Hills, NJ, and Bethlehem, PA. After her marriage in 1941, she and Cole relocated to Columbia, SC, and later moved to Anderson in 1950 with the Singer Sewing Machine Company. In 1961, Cole was transferred to the Singer Corporate Offices in New York City and they established their residency in Wyckoff, NJ. For the following twenty years, Betty and Cole enjoyed living in Istanbul, Turkey, Beirut, Lebanon, Athens, Greece, and Cairo, Egypt, and traveled extensively in Europe and Africa. Betty was a graduate of Moravian College, Bethlehem, PA, a member of the Junior League of Bethlehem, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the DeHaven Club, and other various clubs and organizations. Her favorite past times were playing bridge and spending her summers at Broadway Lake, and in later years at North Litchfield Beach with her family. Betty's daughters remember their mother as loving, devoted, caring, supportive, tender and feisty ' with a neat sense of humor. But most of all, she will be remembered as an example of a lovely, gracious, and true Christian woman. Betty was a member of Central Presbyterian Church and while a resident of Foothills Presbyterian Community, she attended Providence Presbyterian Church. She is survived by four daughters: Martha Sutton Clamp and husband, Jimmy of Anderson, Pamela Sutton Riordan and husband, Bob of Lawrence, KS, Mary Lee Sutton Mason of Cairo, Egypt, and Margaret 'Peggy' Sutton Page and husband, Dennis of Guyton, GA; grandchildren: Paula Clamp Ballentine (Charles B.), John Kevin Clamp, Robert Patrick Riordan (Carrie), Parris Riordan Orr (John), Anastasia Riordan Romero (Adrian), Courtney Mason Knebel (Randy), Robert Courtsworth Mason (April), Colby Mason Mikhail (Wageeh), John Dennis Page IV (Kati), Christopher Sutton Page (Tammy), and Julia Page Fain (Lee); and twenty one great grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers: Fredrick William Finger of Picayune, MS, Robert Pallme Finger of Hellertown, PA, David Patrick Finger of Lebanon, PA, and John Brian Finger of Sarasota, FL. She was predeceased by her husband of fifty-three years, Cole Benjamin Sutton, Jr.; her parents, Frederick Northrop Finger and Elizabeth Tietzman Finger; and a brother, James Maxwell Finger. Following a private family committal service in Old Silver Brook Cemetery, a Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Central Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Reverend Dr. David J. Bailey and the Reverend Julie Schaaf. A Memorial Service will follow at 4pm at the Foothills Presbyterian Community, Easley. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 North Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621, or Calvary Home for Children, 536 Simpson Road, Anderson, SC 29621, or Interim Hospice, 775 Spartan Boulevard, Suite 101, Spartanburg, SC 29301, or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
