Ellen Ruth Brown, age 95, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at her home. Born October 24, 1927, in Iva, SC, she was the daughter of the late "Pink" Turner and Christine Gentry Turner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Clayton Brown; daughter, Sandra Faye Rumsey; grandson, John Anthony Cherry; 4 sisters and 1 brother. Ellen, affectionately known as "Nanny", was a wonderful homemaker who loved to care for and spoil her family. Whenever you saw her, she was always smiling and happy. She enjoyed hummingbirds and pretty flowers and her favorite tv show was Gunsmoke. Ellen was a faithful charter member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple. She is survived by her sons, William A. Brown and Donnie R. Brown both of Starr, SC; daughters, Shelby J. Cherry, and Brenda J. Brooks both of Anderson, SC; granddaughters raised in the home, Tammy Cross (Dale) of Anderson, SC, Cindy Blackwell (Lee) of Pelzer, SC, and Kim Ivester of Anderson, SC; 14 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 23 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Friday, June 9, 2023, from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Sam Duncan and Rev. Dale Cross officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Affinity Hospice, 115 Whitehall Rd., Anderson, SC 29625.
