Ellen Chatham Payne, 82, a long-time resident of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, April 12, 2021. She was born April 13, 1939, in Franklin County, Georgia, and was a daughter of the late Otha and Bertha Chatham. She was married to Henry Kennis Payne until his death in 2008. Ellen was a graduate of Royston High School and spent her entire working career at Equinox Mill, later known as Glen Raven Mills. She loved to sew, bake, and meticulously paint ceramics. Moreover, she had an enduring love for gospel music. Ellen served the Lord faithfully all through her life, and until the last few years, was an active member of Covenant Baptist Church and previously a member of Temple Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. She is survived by her son, Roger Payne (Leanne); sister, Glenda Stevens; grandson, James Payne; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 22, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.
