Ellison Lee Turner, affectionately known as "POP" by his family, of Anderson, SC, died at AnMed Health Medical Center.
He was born on March 15, 1922, in Abbeville, SC. Ellison was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Anderson, SC. He was a lifetime employee and retiree of The Anderson Independent Newspaper.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Herring Turner; step-daughters, Rebecca Simpson, Hetty Lynne Murphy and her husband Sam; grandchildren, Stephen and Tina Pascoe, Suzanne and Kenny King, Jennifer and Wayne Browning, and Rebecca and Shane Norris; 12 great-grandchildren, Philip, Paul, Caleb, and Daniel King, Levi, Jolie Raye, and Troy Pascoe, Caleb and Luke Browning, and Sydney, Mia, and Colby Norris; one sister-in-law, Sybil Turner; a niece, Janice Cline; and long-time friends, Carolyn and James Davis, Alton and Susan Davis, Karen Cromer, Randal Sexton, and Roy and Evelyn Rollison.
In addition to his parents, Arthur and Katie Turner, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Ellison was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was 92 years old.
A private family service will be held for Mr. Turner. Committal services will be at The New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering at New Prospect Baptist Church, 2503 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
