Born in Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late David Daniel Smith and the late Annabelle Jennings Smith. Elmain proudly served his country in the Army Air Force during WWII. He retired from Clark Schwebel as a machine operator. Survivors include his spouse of 68 years, Dorothy Ona Swackhammer Smith of Anderson; a son, Stephen Smith of Fayeteville, NC; two daughters, Mary Lee of Anderson and Elaine Liston of Taylors, SC; brothers, Sam Smith of Iva, SC and Rufus Smith of Chester, SC; a sister, Lula Mae McCollum of Clemson, SC; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, Teddy Wayne Smith. The Graveside Service to honor the life of Mr. Smith will be held on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:30am at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with military honors, provided by The Upstate Veterans Honor Guard. Reverend Dr. Frank Whitfield will officiate. The family will be at their respective homes.
