RICHENS March 17, 1933 - June 26, 2006PENDLETON, SCMrs. Emily Smith Richens, age 73, died Monday June 27, 2006 at the Hospice House in Anderson.She was born in Logan, Utah to Hazel Ann Nelson Smith and Richard H. Smith. She married Voit B. Richens of Vernal, Utah in 1952 in the Logan LDS Temple.Mrs. Richens attended Utah State University and the University of Colorado prior to graduating cum laude from Sacramento City College, CA, with a BA in history. She taught history and government at Caravelle Junior High School in Herman, Maine before beginning a career in real estate. Mrs. Richens worked as a realtor for many years, first in Maine, and then in Anderson at W. Ray Thompson Co., Baron Agency and finally Re/MAX Foothills Realty for the majority of her career. As a realtor, she was recognized with numerous sales awards. Mrs. Richens was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in various capacities in organizations including secretary, organist and teacher.Mrs. Richens is survived by her husband, Voit Richens, daughter, Janet Leipelt, both of Anderson; son, Chad Richens, of New York City, NY; daughter-in-law, Michele Richens of Bangor Maine; grandsons, Colin Leipelt of Kansas City, MO and Brendan Leipelt of Greenville, SC; granddaughters, Ashley Leipelt of Anderson, Heather Kenney, Amber and Courtney Richens all of the Bangor Maine area. She also has two great-grandsons who where her pride and joy, Kyle Kenney of Maine, and Braelin Leipelt of Anderson. She is also survived by her sisters, Gayle Carson of Chico, California, Priscilla Hill of LaVerne, California and her brother, Richard N. Smith of Bountiful, Utah.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Grant Evans Richens.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, arranged by the congregation's Bishop David DeFranco and conducted by Norm Bouwhuis. Serving as pallbearers are Chad Richens, Colin Leipelt, Brendan Leipelt, Donny Shreve, John Bonds and Harold Dial.
