Ena Mae Campbell McAlister, 98, passed away on September 8, 2022 at her home after a decline in her health. A life-long resident of Anderson, she was born on April 30,1924 to the late Sarah Mae Brown and Evans Wilhite Campbell. She was the wife of the late James Walter (JW) McAlister. Surviving are two nieces: Sarah Pierce (Max Rogers) of Pelzer, SC and Billie Pierce Sims of Anderson; many great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and one great-great-great niece. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Elizabeth Pierce and Edna Arnold, a brother Evans Campbell Jr., a niece Maggie Polmatier (Paul), and a nephew Eddie Arnold. She was the last surviving member of the Evans Wilhite Campbell family. Ena Mae has the distinction of "being the first female to invade this normally masculine domain" by being hired as the Records Clerk of the Anderson Police Department. She was also employed for years at Anderson Memorial Hospital and Hinnant and Gaillard Physicians. She was a graduate of Girls High School Class of 1942. She enjoyed working in her yard and home and especially loved to decorate at Christmas. Ena Mae had many friends both old and new. She loved to travel and enjoyed family gatherings. There were many friends who were like second families in Virginia and in Sandy Springs, SC. Special thanks to Hospice nurses Peggy and Cat and aide Shanmonique. Also, thanks to the staff of Kindred Hospice; caregivers Connie, Roxanne, and the staff of Right At Home; and Lauren our "special angel". Heartfelt bonds were made with these dedicated people with Ena Mae and her family. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 18, 2022. Visitation begins at 2:00 pm with the celebration service beginning at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home in Anderson. Flowers are optional.
