Obituary

Alton Ray Ertzberger, age 84, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2023.

Born March 29, 1939, in Anderson, he was a son of the late Paul Ertzberger and Cleo Daly Ertzberger. He was also preceded in death by his son, James Paul Ertzberger; a daughter, Lisa Darlene Ertzberger; brother, James Ertzberger; and a sister, Linda Ransom.

Erchie worked for JP Stevens for over 25 years and was the former owner and operator of the Texaco gas station on North Main Street. His favorite hobbies were golfing and fishing. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Norma Smith Ertzberger; granddaughter who is like a daughter, Angie Surls (Kyle) of the home; great granddaughter, Bailey Hammond; and sisters, Elizabeth "Lib" Powell and Darlene Albertson (Don); and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Saturday, December 9, 2023, from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at Oakwood Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 12:30 pm with Rev. Guy Roberts and Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers are Michael Hamilton, Ken Mullinax, Tony Stewart, Gary Madden, Grady Ellison, and Eddie Bryant. Honorary pallbearer is Gordy Craft.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Baptist Church Victory Sunday School Class, 304 Pearman Dairy Rd., Anderson, SC 29625.

The family will be at the home.
