ALEXANDER June 27, 1918 - November 14, 2005IVA, SCMr. Ernest Danner Alexander, age 87, husband of Aileen Alexander of 111 Kitty Corner Circle, Iva, SC, died Monday, November 14, 2005 at the Hospice House in Anderson, SC.Born in Anderson, SC on June 27, 1918, Mr. Alexander was the son of the late Walter Thomas Alexander and Emma Watson Alexander. He was retired from Jackson Mills with 40 years of service as a supply room clerk. He was a United States Army World War II veteran having served with the 103rd Cactus Division of 409th Infantry in The European Theatre (Germany, France and Austria) from 1942 to 1945, as Master Sergeant in Anti Tank Company. He participated in Ardennes, Rhineland, Battle of the Bulge and Central Europe Campaigns. He was the recipient of the EAME Theatre Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, the Good Conduct Ribbon, Victory Medal- World War II, in the U.S. Army National Museum. He was a member of the Army Reserves for 17 years. Mr. Alexander was the oldest member of the American Legion, Thomas Leverette Post No.44, where he served as Post Commander and Post Adjutant. He was a Troop Leader and Assistant Troop Leader with the Boy Scouts of America. He played basketball, football and baseball earning a scholarship to Clemson University in all three sports. He was a basketball and baseball star in high school and the textile leagues. He was a member of the 'Iron House Five' of Starr, who won the Anderson County Tournament. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Iva where he served as Trustee, Sunday School Class President, Secretary and Treasurer, Chairman of the Ministerial Board, Chairman of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, a delegate to the SC Annual Conference and he formerly served as church janitor. Survivors include his wife, Aileen Alexander of the home; sons, Stephen D. Alexander and his wife, Nancy of Anderson, SC, Thomas R. Alexander and his wife, Karen of Pendleton, SC and David J. Alexander and his wife, Joan of Florence, SC and William Crawford of Richmond, VA; six grandchildren, Matt Alexander and his wife, Sara, Andy PAGE TWO OBITUARY: ALEXANDERAlexander, Kathryn and Reese Alexander and Meredith and Candace Alexander. He is also survived by a great-grandson, Lucas Alexander, son of Matt and Sara. Funeral services will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church in Iva on Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at 4:00 pm by the Reverends Amy Dill and Peggy Garland. Interment will follow in Iva City Cemetery in Iva, SC.The family will receive friends at Bethel United Methodist Church from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Wednesday.The family will be at the residence, 111 Kitty Corner Circle, Iva, SC.Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, P.O.
