ERNEST MELVIN BOWEN June 30 1922 - July 18, 2008WILLIAMSTON, SCMr. Ernest Melvin Bowen, 86 of 262 Paulan Road, Williamston, husband of Elise Reid Terry Bowen, went to be with the Lord Friday, July 18, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House after a lengthy illness.Born in Clinton, SC on June 30, 1922, he was the son of the late Mel and Winnie Shumake Bowen. He was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas. He was an avid sportsman as long as health permitted. He was a Sunday School teacher for many years and attended Williamston Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was twice married, first to the late Frances Smith Bowen.Surviving are his wife, Elise Reid Terry Bowen of the home; son, Berry Bowen of Anderson, daughters, Sharon Worley of Anderson and Martha Bright of Florida; granddaughter Tammy Bridges of Anderson who was reared in the home; stepsons, Marvin and Randy Terry of Iva; 4 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; 2 step grandchildren and 3 step great-grandchildren; one brother, Amon Leon Bowen of Anderson and three sisters, Lucille Duckett, Mildred Smith, and Joann Merritt, all of Anderson.Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a grandson.The Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2008 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Randy Fleming and the Reverend Luther Cook officiating. Burial will be at the Williamston City Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, July 20, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the home.Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E.
