Essie Viola Lawton Madden, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, April 30, 2018 at NHC of Anderson. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late John B. and Hillian R. Lawton. She was a member of the Belton Pentecostal Holiness Church and a member of the Silver Circle and Ladies Sunday School Class as long as her health permitted. In addition to her parents, Essie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Madden; brothers, Franklin, W.C., and Wade; and sisters, Mary L. Stowers and Ione L. Cook. She is survived by a brother, Gordon L. (Johnnie) Lawton; sisters, Etrulia B. Counts, and Johnnye (David) King; as well as many nieces and nephews. The graveside service will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at the Garden of Memories in Belton with Jason Lawton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
