She was the daughter of the late Sam B. and Lona Wright Scarborough. She made her home with her son for the past 34 years. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Honea Path.Surviving are one son: John Robert (Bob) Fortner and wife, Marsha; two granddaughters, Melissa Anne Evatt and Jennifer Erin Kennedy; two great-grandchildren: Nathan Lee Kennedy and Kacie Erin Michelle Evatt. James Nathan Cheek whom she loved like a grandson. Brothers: Rev. Fred (Tab) Scarborough of Honea Path, J. P. Wright of Anderson, Sisters: Alice Cleveland and Shelby Isom of Anderson. A sister-in-law, Barbara Philyaw of Seneca. Mrs. Banister was predeceased by a brother, Edward J. (Johnny) Scarborough and a sister, Frances Keith.A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 10:30 am at Mount Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Fred (Tab) Scarborough officiating. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at their respective homes.Flowers will be accepted.
