Evelyn Cecilia Childress Kay, age 92, of Anderson, SC, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, at her home. She was born in Salem, SC, but was reared and educated in Hickory, NC. She was the daughter of the late Berry Sullivan Childress and Della Moss Childress. She was the widow of Leon A. Kay, Sr. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Ginger K. Yeargin; 4 brothers, 2 sisters. Evelyn's career in personnel management spanned many years. The first 25 years were spent with Abney Mills, then Schmid Laboratories and Lowenstein. Upon leaving this path, she became General Manager of the American Sentry Alarm Company and the Anderson Answering Service. She retired as Manager of the Regal Sign Company. She was very active in her community as an officer and/or board member of the Anderson Sertoma Club, Anderson Area Crimestoppers, American Red Cross, March of Dimes, Anderson Counseling Center, South Carolina Rehabilitation Workshop, Mayor's Committee for Hiring Handicapped, Anderson-Oconee-Pickens Workforce, Tri-County Technical College Speaker's Bureau, and Meals on Wheels ProAm Golf Tournament. She is survived by her son, Leon A. "Buddy" Kay, Jr. and wife Sybil of Anderson; brother-in-law, Robert Kay and wife Barbara of Greenville; 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. The family will receive friends Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 1:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Dr. Josh Hunt officiating. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team at Amedisys Hospice of South Carolina for all of the help and care provided. The family will be at the home.
