Smith Jefferson, age 88, passed away on June 2, 2006 at The Maples in Honea Path, SC.Born in Anderson, SC on December 31, 1917, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Effie Williams Junkins. She was a homemaker and a member of Canaan Baptist Church. Our beloved mother went to be with the Lord on June 2nd. She had been a resident of the Maples (Assisted Living) in Honea Path for the past two years and she was treated special in every way by the staff and other residents. Expression of our thanks also goes to Hospice of the Upstate.Survivors include children, Joyce Speares and her husband, Dr. Benny Speares of Anderson; Millie Sue Lowe and her husband, Tommy of Belton, and Jo Ann Stamps of Starr and son, Tommy Ray Smith of Easley, SC; brother, Gene Junkins of Lexington, NC; sisters, Edna Powell of Myrtle Beach, SC, Hazel Gunter, Helen Brewer and Betty Bean, all of Lexington, NC. Twelve grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren also survive.She was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene Smith and second husband, Lawrence Jefferson; parents, Clarence Junkins and Effie Williams Junkins and a brother, William Junkins.The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2006 at 3:00 pm at Canaan Baptist Church officiated by the Dr. Benny Speares and Rev. Jerry Parnell. Interment will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, June 3, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Mrs. Jefferson will be placed in the church at 2:00 pm on Sunday.The family will be at the home of Benny and Joyce Speares, 500 Tiffany Drive, Regency Park, Anderson, SC.Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to the Building Fund of Canaan Baptist Church, 1834 S.
