EVON McGIRT CAMPBELL March 10, 1938 - August 13, 2013 Evon McGirt Campbell, age 75, of 2703 Millgate Road, went home to be with the Lord upon her death at AnMed Health Medical Center on Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Born in St. Pauls, NC, she was the daughter of the late Marvin McGirt and the late Surfornia Chavis McGirt. She was twice married, first to the late Travis Thompson, then to the late Richard B. Campbell. Mrs. Campbell was retired as a machine operator with the J. P. Stevens, Appleton Plant. She was a faithful member of Gethsemane Baptist Temple where she participated in the Ladies Visitation Group and where she was a member of the choir. Survivors include 2 sons, Carlton Ray Thompson and his wife, Irene, and Billy Joe Thompson and his wife, Marilyn, both of Belton; 3 daughters Lois Burdette Lichfield of Anderson, Betty Brock of Belton, and June Marie Meredith and her husband, Chris, of Anderson; 2 brothers, Fred McGirt and wife, Sally, of Lumberton, NC, and Bobby Ray McGirt and wife, Angie, of Dallas, NC; 6 sisters, Eva Mae Gordon of Greer, SC, Josephine Locklear of Pembroke, NC, Margaret Rose Thompson of Dallas, NC, Mary Frances Owen of Pembroke, NC, Dorothy Hammonds of Lumberton, NC, and Glenda Lusk of Dallas, NC. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Thompson Pamphilon; a brother Marvin McGirt, Jr.; and a sister Coralee Locklear. A Funeral Service to honor and celebrate the life of Mrs. Evon M. Campbell will be held on Friday, August 16, 2013, at 2 PM at the Gethsemane Baptist Temple with the Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 1 PM. Interment will follow at Old Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, August 15, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM.
