Flora C. Holcombe, born December 3, 1924, in Seneca, SC she was the only daughter of the late Henry Marcus and Fannie Mae Nelms Crittenden. Flora was predeceased by her five older brothers, James W. "Dud", John W. Sr. "Curley", Edwards Sims, Haskell "Hack", and George Harold Crittenden, who all grew up in Calhoun Falls, SC. Flora was the widow of Harold A. Holcombe. Together they lived in Calhoun Falls, Ft. Richardson, Alaska, Columbia, SC, Renton, WA, El Paso, TX, and Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. After retirement from the United States Army they moved to Anderson, where they spent their last years. Flora lived at Morningside of Anderson for the past three years, where she was tenderly cared for by a kind and loving staff. Flora was at the Hospice of the Upstate at the time of her peaceful death. A son, Ronnie D. Holcombe predeceased Flora, and she is survived by daughter, Joyce Hall. Also a son, Greg Holcombe and Zachary Holcombe, grandson of the home. Grandchildren, Melinda, Darren and Russell Hall also mourn her passing and celebrate her life of kindness and service to others. Flora is also survived by sister-in-law, Edith Holcombe Byers, of Rock Hill; and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Michaela, Josh, and TJ Hall. Flora was a member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church. The Graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Reverend Dr. Kirt Mitchell officiating. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday from Noon until 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Varennes Heights Baptist Church, 411 Visage Drive, Anderson, SC 29626; or to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
