Florene Hayes Anderson, SC Florene Anthony Hayes, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, 2014, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Pickens County, SC, on February 12, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas Anthony and the late Carey Hayes Anthony. Florene retired from Iva Manufacturing and had also worked with Anderson County School District #3 in food service. She was the faithful and devoted wife of the late Reverend Eldon Leroy Hayes for 72 years until his death this past February. Together they served Union Baptist Church in Iva, SC for 33 years, where she taught the Gleaners Sunday school class and held many Bible drills. Florene was a member of First Baptist Church in Anderson and attended the Blanche Holcombe Sunday school class. For the past two years she was a resident of Hart Care Center in Hartwell, GA. She is survived by her children, Charles Hayes, and his wife, Vivian, of Iva, SC, Reverend Jerry Hayes and his wife, Jane, of Anderson, SC, and Joan Ellison and her husband, Don, of Williamston, SC; 11 grandchildren, Melanie Mize, Jeremy Holtzclaw, Charis Richey, Chas Hayes, John Michael Hayes, Adam Hayes, Joshua Hayes, David Hayes, Niki Cox, Casey Cromer and Lori Norris and 27 great- grandchildren; a brother, Ray Anthony of Portland, OR; and a sister, Lizzie Mae Simmons of Pickens, SC. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 5 sisters. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Union Baptist Church with the Reverend Mike McMillion and Reverend Jerry Hayes officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, November 16, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
