GAMBRELLSEPTEMBER 17, 1918 - July 13, 2007ANDERSON -- Flossie ('Pug') Lura Steen Gambrell, 88, died peacefully at NHC in Anderson, SC, on Friday, July 13, 2007 following a long battle with Alzheimer's. Pug was the loving wife of Lt. Col. (AUS-Ret) Robert L. Gambrell of Anderson. They were happily married for nearly 63 years following a three-month whirlwind courtship during World War II. She is survived by four children: Yvonne Harrison (John) of Easley, Teresa Watson (Joedy) of Greenville, Jeanne Huckabee (John) of Baton Rouge, LA, and Col. (USAF-Ret.) Robert L. Gambrell Jr. (Sheila) of Tuscaloosa, AL. Also surviving are her cherished grandchildren: John Harrison IV (Brantley) of Greenville, Meredith Struby (Neil) of Atlanta, GA, Nicole Baxley of NYC, Capt. Robert L. Gambrell III of Okinawa, Japan, Jeanne Harrison (fianc' Curtis Bollinger) and Sarah Watson of Charleston, Cathy Nonamaker (Jason) of Tuscaloosa, AL, Josh Harrison of Clemson, and Keli Gambrell of Baton Rouge, LA. In addition she was blessed with three great-grandchildren: Evans and Fox Harrison of Greenville, and Natalie Nonamaker of Tuscaloosa, AL. She was the daughter of the late Jesse Walls and Bertha Cofield Steen and a native of Wedowee, AL. Born on September 17, 1918, and one of thirteen children, she is survived by two sisters, Cordelle Sutton of Oxford, AL and Helen Neago of Toledo, OH, and numerous nieces and nephews. As a devoted Army wife, Pug moved her family all over the world during her husband's army career. She was a master quilter and an incredible cook. She was a member of Pope Drive Baptist Church for over 40 years. She attended Southern Union Baptist College and worked for the civil service during World War II. Visitation will be held from 4:00pm to 6:00pm on Sunday, July 15, 2007 at The McDougald Funeral Home. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, July 16, 2007 at 11:00am in the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Reverend Bill Rigsby officiating.
