Floy was born on January 6, 1912 in Newberry and died November 23, 2007 in Anderson after being a long time resident of Columbia. She was the daughter of Anna Wessinger Harman and The Reverend Doctor Julian Bachman Harman and the granddaughter of Elizabeth Derrick Wessinger and Jesse Wessinger, and Elizabeth Ballentine Harman and Calhoun Harman.She was educated in Johnston, Little Mountain, White Rock and Newberry. She attended Summerland College, graduating from Newberry College. She did graduate work in Columbia at the University of South Carolina. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother always putting her family first in her life.She taught in Saluda County for 3 years at Indian Creek School and finished her teaching career at McCants Elementary School in Columbia teaching 2nd grade until her retirement. She was a member of Incarnation Lutheran Church in Columbia and the Anne Muller Lykes Sunday School Class. When she moved to Anderson in 2002, she became a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and gratefully appreciated the ministry of her pastor, Dr. Paul Cooper.She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Bowers McGowan and two granddaughters, Bonnie McGowan Emanuel and husband, Dr. Ben Emanuel, and Lisa McGowan Whitley and husband, Bob Whitley. Her great grandchildren were Abbey Whitley, Elizabeth Emanuel, Benjamin Emanuel, Rebecca Emanuel, Robert Whitley, and Alexandra Whitley. She was predeceased by her brothers, Carl and J. B. Harman, and sisters Ann Julia Hipp, Cleo Matthews Hollingsworth, Mary Ruth Riddle, and Lois Eunice Hawkins. She was also predeceased by her beloved son, Dr. Kerry W. Bowers.The Graveside Service will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 2:30 pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC with the Reverend Dr. Paul Cooper officiating.
