Floyd Dean Aiken, age 85 of Anderson, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, at Rainey Hospice House with his loving family by his side. Born on January 14, 1931, he was the son of the late William Aiken and the late Eldora Donalds Aiken. Floyd was twice married, first to the late Mary Kathryn Gailey Aiken and then to the late Catherine Pauline Bowen Weldon Hart Aiken. He was employed for many years as a machine operator in the textile industry. He worked with Abney Mills, Appleton Mill and he retired from Delta Woodside Estes Plant. Mr. Aiken was a faithful and devoted member of Burdine Road Church of God for as long as health permitted.
Sujrvivors include two sons, Roger Aiken (Alice) of Simpsonville, SC, and Rick Aiken (Janet) of Anderson; two brothers, J. B. Aiken (Mamie) of Liberty, SC, and Joel Aiken (Mary, also of Liberty; a sister, Sue Foster (James) of Pickens, SC; five grandchildren, Shannon Cape, Melanie Jenkins, Andrea Kendall, Hannah Olivia Aiken, and Shaun Parham; also surviving are ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Mr. Aiken is survived also by a special friend, Mary Barnes of Anderson.
In addition to his parents and his first and second wife, Floyd was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Denise Browning; grandchildren, Jeremy Parham and Shane Whittaker; two brothers, Tillman and Freeman Aiken; and sisters, Addie Vaughn, Louise Gaddy, Mae Leopard, Rose Vaughn, and Marcie Aiken.
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Linley Park Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, and the Rainey Hospice House for the loving care given to their father while in their care.
The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mr. Floyd Aiken will be held on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Burdine Road Church of God, with Rev. Curtis Lanier and Rev. Ray Johnson officiating. A private interment will be held for family at a later date at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Roger and Alice Aiken, 9140 Moorefield Memorial Hwy, Liberty SC, and will receive friends at Burdine Road Church of God on Tuesday from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Aiken to the Burdine Road Church of God, 1007 Burdine Road, Anderson, SC 29624.
