Foster Holdren Drake, age 87, of Anderson SC, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at AnMed Medical Center.
Born October 16, 1936 in Newton, WV, he was a son of the late James Franklin Drake and Mildred Lucy Reed Drake. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond A. Drake and Wendell W. Drake and his sister, Mildred Jacqueline Drake Clepper.
He served his country as Captain in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Greenland. He was first in his class as a pilot. He loved all things farm related. He started working at the age of 5 and worked for 82 years. He was active with church activities at The Carpenter's Church in Anderson. He was an extremely talented mechanic who loved old cars. He refurbished old tools, restoring over 1200 tools. He loved to be outside, and "tinker" around and loved golf. Foster was a hardworking family man who adored his bride and his family.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary-Louise Barta Drake; sons, Steve Drake (Diane) and Kevin Drake; daughters, Karen D. Drake Houston (Kirk), Susan Drake Walters (Trey) and Beth A. Drake Moyer; stepson, Josh McAninch (Jennifer) ; stepdaughter, Joy McAninch Hyde (Griffin); brothers, R. Harlan Drake (Phyllis), David F. Drake (Carmen) and Ernest R. Drake; sisters, Patsy E Drake Flensburg and Helen L. Drake Perrow (Edward); eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 11:30 am – 12:15 pm. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 12:30 pm with Rev. Kendall Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at MJ "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery .
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8516.
