Lillie Frances Swaney Brown, age 89, of 519 Lebanon Road, Pendleton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at her residence surrounded by her family as they read the words of scripture which she loved so much. Born in Oconee County, SC on September 18, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Clarence M. Swaney and the late Alma Duncan Swaney. For 46 years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late E. Milford Brown, Jr. until his death in 1988.
Mrs. Brown was a graduate of Pendleton High School. She was later employed as a cloth inspector at Milliken Excelsior Plant in Pendleton, a position she held for many years until her retirement. Frances was a lifelong member of Faith Fellowship Church in Pendleton. She was founder and director of the Forever Young Club, taught Sunday School and was a former secretary and treasurer of the church. Frances was an active member of the Pendleton American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling and meeting people. Frances enjoyed a life very well lived, with her Lord, her church, her family and friends as the focus.
Left to carry on her legacy are her son, Stan D. Brown and his wife, Connie, of Central, SC; 2 daughters, Wanda B. Batten and husband, Lamar, of Pendleton, SC and Regina Forrest and husband, Rick, of Townville, SC; a brother, Jimmy Swaney and wife, Jackie, of Clemson, SC; a sister, Joan Kelly and husband Willis, of Anderson; 6 grandchildren, Bryan Batten, Wendy Batten, Tully Brown, Ansley Allen, Scott Forrest, and Emily Forrest; also surviving are 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Milford, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Robby Murrah; and 3 sisters, Mildred Taylor, Doris Craft and Iona Melvin.
The Funeral Service to celebrate the life of Frances Brown will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Faith Fellowship Church in Pendleton, with Rev. Keith Kelly, Rev. Sam Duncan, and Rev. Mark Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Clemson Memory Gardens. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, May 19, 2014, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
Flowers are accepted and contributions in memory of Mrs. Brown may be made to Faith Fellowship Church Building Fund, 2230 Old Greenville Hwy., Pendleton, SC 29670.
