Seventy of those years, she was a devoted and loving wife to her husband William Metts. Her family and church were the center of her life. A fifty-year faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lincolnton, she was active in many aspects of the church. Mrs. Metts was one of the first volunteers and organizers for 'Meals on Wheels' of Lincolnton. Born January 10, 1914 in Simpsonville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Floyd West and Ada West Cox. Mrs. Metts graduated from Furman University, former Women's College in 1935 majoring in Biology. She entered the field of education as an elementary teacher in Gaston and Lincoln Counties for 20 years and continued to substitute teach for a number of years after her retirement.Mrs. Metts is survived by her husband, Bill Metts of Anderson Place in Anderson, SC and her two daughters, Jeanne Miller of Huntersville, NC and Lucy Taylor and husband James of Anderson. Lovingly known as Granny, her surviving grandchildren are Abby Kirby and husband Doug of Mooresville, NC; Bryan Taylor and wife Wendy of Pendleton, SC; Maggie Capper and husband Jason of Jim Thorpe, PA; Marc Taylor and wife Angie of Conway, SC. She is also survived by 7 great-grandchildren; two nephews, Floyd West of Greenville, SC and Jack West of Fountain Inn, SC; and one niece, Mary Donahue of Bethesda, MD. Preceding her in death is her brother, Robert Floyd West, Sr.A Graveside Service will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, October 8th, in Springwood Cemetery, Greenville, conducted by the Reverend Paul Frey. A Celebration of the Life of Mrs. Metts will be held at 2pm on Sunday, October 12th, at the First Presbyterian Church, Lincolnton, conducted by the Reverend Claude Wilson ' Stayton and the Reverend Dr. William H. Terry.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 114 West Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.The McDougald Funeral Home, Anderson, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
