Frances Anderson Thompson, age 99, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026.
Born February 19, 1927, in Anderson, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late G. Ross Anderson, Sr. and Eva Mae Pooler Anderson.
She married Dalton Thompson of Anderson in 1947 and they relocated to Washington, DC soon after. Frances was dedicated to taking care of her family and was a fabulous, loving and kind wife and mom. Their home ran like clockwork, but she always had time for her family. Her family still doesn't know how she did it all! They all felt deeply loved and cared for and will return that love forever.
She had a 35-year career with the FBI in Washington and would frequently mention her time at the Bureau. She was very proud of her service. She and Dalton purchased a house in the Maryland suburbs in 1957 to raise their daughter Nancy and son Dalton Jr. where they lived until 1995. After retirement, she began volunteering with the Maryland County school system as a teacher's aide for English as a Second Language classes, which she found very rewarding.
Frances and Dalton finally committed to moving back to Anderson in 1995 as they always wanted to return "home." They loved living near their families again and making new friends in their neighborhood and new church home, Concord Baptist Church. After 56 years of marriage, her Dalton passed away in 2003. She chose to stay in her beloved Anderson. She and her friend and neighbor Lillian Wright held court at the Bojangles unofficial breakfast club on Saturday mornings where they laughed, shared stories and coffee with their friends (and everyone that came in was a friend!). She enjoyed church outings and she was a regular at her seniors exercise group. She could be seen driving all over Anderson. She loved driving her car. When she eventually went to assisted living, she hated giving up her car keys at 91. She understood but hated it. She often said she missed her car the most. She moved to Morningside Assisted Living in 2019 and then moved back to Maryland in 2023 so her daughter could help care for her.
She is survived by her loving children, Nancy Melandry and Dalton Thompson, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dalton J. Thompson, Sr.; parents, G. Ross & Eva Mae Anderson, Sr.; brother, G. Ross Anderson, Jr.; and sister, Mabel Anderson Busbee.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, from 10:00-10:45 am at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 am in the Chapel with Rev. Bill Parnell officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
