Frances Strickland Tilley, age 93, of Carrollton, GA, died on Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC. Born on October 7, 1922 in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late W. R. Strickland and the late Eunice Mulkey Strickland. For forty-six years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late Leon William Tilley until his death in 1989. Mrs. Tilley was an accomplished seamstress in Anderson, having worked for thirty-six years at Scott Shirt Company, then with Paul's Clothing for fourteen years. She was a faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church where she was a part of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class. Survivors include a son, Michael Leon Tilley and his wife, Nancy, of Carrollton, GA; a daughter, Gloria Tilley Harrill and her husband, John David, of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren, John David Harrill, III and his wife, Joanne of Canton, MS; and Amanda Tilley of Carrollton, GA; two great-grandchildren, John David Harrill, IV, and Jessica Harrill. In addition to her parents and her husband, Leon, Frances was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Guy Strickland; and two sisters, Ruby and Mildred Strickland. A Graveside Service to celebrate and honor the life of Mrs. Tilley will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016, at 2 p.m. at New Silver Brook Cemetery, with Reverend Dr. Glenn Taylor officiating.
