Obituary

Francis Carl Hanak, age 66, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his family. Born in Tarrytown, NY on February 23, 1950, he was the son of the late John Paul Hanak and the late Theresia Englberger Hanak. Frank was a master locksmith and jack-of-all-trades, and was self-employed for most of his career. There is an expression to describe a person who enjoys meeting new people: they say he "never met a stranger." That is Frank in a nutshell. He loved people and people loved him. His kindness, generosity and humor were the qualities that attracted so many people to Frank. Frank and his brother, Sandy, bonded over their mutual love of surfing, alpine skiing and cars. Frank was able to spend his last couple of years enjoying the car of his dreams, his 2004 Lemans edition Z06 Corvette. If you know him you have surely seen it, if not ridden in it. Frank loved traveling and going on vacation with his family. He introduced his wife, Chris, to Walt Disney World in 1975 when they were first married and the entire family is totally addicted now. A few years ago, he demonstrated his absolute devotion to Chris by learning to ballroom dance with her. They even got quite adept at salsa dancing which was, by far, Frank's favorite. This provided many years of pleasure to them both and brought them together with many wonderful friends. Frank's greatest source of pride and probably his greatest role was as father to his two wonderful kids, Rachel and Jesse. Frank is survived by his loving wife Christina Hanak; a son, Jesse Tyler Hanak (his wife, Judith); a daughter, Rachel Alexis Hanak; and a brother, Alexander John Hanak. A drop-in to celebrate the life of Frank Hanak will be held at Viva! Wine Bar, 168 Exchange St., Pendleton, SC 29670 on Thursday, February 9 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. There will be a photo table. If you happen to have a nice photo with Frank in it, please bring to share. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Give Kids the World at www.gktw.org
