Franklin Leroy Hanks, age 95, of Iva, SC, passed away Thursday, January 21, 2021, at his home with his wife by his side. Born April 20, 1925 in Iva, SC, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson Hanks, Sr. and Lyda Burton Hanks. Frank was a veteran of the United States Navy and was stationed in Japan during WWII. He retired from Cromer Sullivan Construction Company with 30 years of faithful service to the company. He was a mason for over 60 years and was a member of the Iva Masonic Lodge. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and had been attending Carswell Baptist Church for over 20 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Joann Joyce Homol Hanks of the home; son, Billy Franklin Hanks (Julie) of Iva, SC; step-sons, Doug Harris of Iva, SC, and Jerry Harris of Arkansas; grandchildren, Tabitha Brock, Vickie Hanks, Alex Lind, Chris Lind, Stephanie Kelley, and Jamey Kelley; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Sue Garrett Hanks; son, Thomas Leroy Hanks; brothers, Jesse, T.J., Clarence, and Tillman Hanks; and sisters, Emma H. Anderson, Martha H. Anderson, and Montel Holbrooks. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 12:30-2:00 pm at Union Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm with Rev. Hudson White and Rev. James Bannister officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
