HILLANDERSON, SC ' Frank Ruise Hill, age 85, was born in Florence County, SC, on April 28, 1924. He was the son of the late Walter Frank and Eunice McKenzie Hill and husband of the late Ida Lee Kirby Hill.After graduation from high school, he worked for the Charleston Naval Shipyard until he entered active duty with the U.S. Army in World War II, on December 2, 1943. He served his country as a Combat Infantryman with Company C, 407 Infantry Regiment, 102d Infantry Division, 9th Army. He landed in Normandy in August, 1944, and fought through northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He was wounded and captured by the Nazi SS at the Elbe River and remained a POW through May 4, 1945. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the EAMET Campaign Medal with three bronze service stars.Mr. Hill retired from Ford Motor Company after forty years of employment, most as Parts Manager for Guy Motors in Anderson.He was an active member of North Anderson Baptist Church where he has many wonderful friends. He was a member of the Men's Bible Class who freely gave of their time and companionship during his final illness.Surviving are his daughter, Mary Standeffer and husband, David; granddaughter, Sarah Standeffer; dear friend, Bobbie Williams, all of Anderson. Also surviving are his brother, Harry Lee Hill and wife, Alice; and nephew, Michael Hill, all of Weston, FL.A Memorial Service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at North Anderson Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Bill Rigsby. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the Church.A private family graveside service with Military Honors will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.The family respectfully requests that flowers be omitted and memorials made to North Anderson Baptist Church Building Fund, 2308 North Main Street, Anderson, SC 29621.A message of condolence may be sent by visiting www.mcdougaldfuneralhome.com.THE McDOUGALD FUNERAL HOME is in charge of the funeral arrangements
