Fred Dobbins, Sr. Fred Gerrard Dobbins, Sr., age 96, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House. Born in Anderson, SC, on January 6, 1919, he was the son of the late William Holland Dobbins and Ruby Gerrard Dobbins. For 68 years, Mr. Dobbins was the devoted husband to the late Elizabeth Gaines Dobbins, until her passing in 2009. A life-long farmer, Mr. Dobbins was a graduate of Clemson University and served as Chairman of the SC Agricultural Committee for two terms, along with being the Governor's appointee to the SC Agricultural Study Committee. Mr. Dobbins was very active in his community. He served for 42 years on the School Boards of Anderson County, including several terms as Chairman of Anderson County Board of Education and District 4 School Board, President of the Anderson County Lions Club and Chairman of the Anderson County Democratic Party, for two terms. Mr. Dobbins was a member of Townville Baptist Church where he had served several terms as deacon. Mr. Dobbins is survived by three sons, Fred Dobbins, Jr. and his wife Patricia, Dick Dobbins and his wife Becky and Rhett Dobbins and his wife Ann; 5 grandchildren, Debra, Kimberly, Ranze, Josh and Sommer and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel Dobbins and Evelyn Williams and three brothers, Lee Dobbins, Thomas Dobbins, Jack Dobbins. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 11:00 am at Townville Baptist Church, with Rev. Jim Crittendon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
