Fred "Joe" McMinn Pendleton, SC Fred "Joe" McMinn, age 82, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late James E. McMinn and the late Lily Moore McMinn. He proudly served his country in the United States Army earning the rank of Corporal in the 187th Airbourne during 1951-1953. During his time in the military he earned the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation and the Good Conduct Medal. He retired from Owens Corning as a process engineer. Joe was a member of Six and Twenty Baptist Church. He was the adoring husband of Ethel Whitman McMinn, for 56 years, who survives him. He is also survived by two step-daughters, Sandra Carroll, of Washington, DC and Darlene Hopper, of Anderson, SC. Being one of nine children, Joe is survived by only one sister, Doris Alberson, of Anderson, SC; one granddaughter, Ashley Jenkins; and special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Jeff McMinn, George McMinn, Nathe McMinn, John McMinn; and sisters, Ellen Moore, Katy Bruce, and Annie Holloman. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dwight Greene officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, prior to the service on Thursday from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, 2434 Hudson Road, #154, Greer, SC 29650.
