Fred Dewitt Yates, age 92, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born April 1, 1932, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Edward Augustus Yates and Mary Berilla Turner Yates. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 71 years, Betty Harbin Yates; two sons, Randall Yates and Donnie Yates; grandson, Joey Lark; son-in-law, Fred Bailey, Jr.; brothers, Owen Echols, Garrett Yates, and Marion "Bubba" Yates; sisters, Grace Fowler, Edna McCullough, and Mary Wrenn.

Fred was a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He was a lifelong member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He enjoyed a long career in the textile industry before retiring. He was a member of The Outreach Entertainers alongside his adoring wife Betty. After her passing, he joined Senior Solutions where he earned the nickname "Indiana Jones". Fred was a skilled handyman and always had his tools on him as he had a passion for fixing things. He also loved caring for his BB Red chickens.

He is survived by his daughters, Susan Yates Lark (Jerry) and Cathy Bailey; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 29, 2025, from 2:00-2:45 pm at New Prospect Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm with Rev. Bryan Cribb officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
